On February 27, 2024, Zoom released an updated version of its (artificial intelligence) AI Companion, which aims to transform the way small businesses operate and collaborate globally. The new version has added language support across the platform, which will help bridge communication gaps among multilingual teams.

With an array of language supports, Zoom’s AI Companion is now more powerful and available to qualifying paying users at no extra cost. The Team Chat feature now supports nine languages: Japanese, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, French, German, Spanish, Italian, and Portuguese. Meanwhile, automatic language detection for meeting summaries has been added, and the in-meeting features have been expanded to handle 36 languages.

The platform’s language integration aims to improve accessibility and inclusion for a diverse clientele, rather than just increasing numbers. This makes it easier for international teams to communicate and collaborate. The AI Companion feature in Team Chat helps users compose messages and summarize conversations in their preferred language. Automatic language detection for meeting summaries streamlines collaboration by generating summaries without pre-setting the primary language.

This updated version is a significant advancement for small business owners who want to enhance their global collaboration and efficiency. By leveraging Zoom’s improved language capabilities, they can overcome communication barriers that previously limited their reach, creating new opportunities for innovation and development in a world where connections are increasingly frequent.

Multilingual AI is essential for global teams. Mahesh Ram, head of AI at Zoom, said, “It’s imperative that your AI supports a multitude of languages used by your global teams if you’re using AI to help improve collaboration and productivity. This was an obvious choice for Zoom. We aim to enable worldwide teams to collaborate and connect more successfully.”
