Workday launches AI learning platform for compliance training

Workday, Inc. has released a new AI-driven learning platform that replaces generic employee training with guidance built around each worker’s actual role.

The platform, Workday Learning, runs on Sana’s AI-native learning technology. It combines Workday’s existing people and skills data with Sana’s tools.

The company built the tool to address a common complaint from learning and development teams. Employees often complete required training without retaining or applying the material.

“Checking the box isn’t the same as building a skill,” Joel Hellermark, Workday’s Chief AI Officer, said in a company release.

Workday Learning gives each employee a personal AI tutor embedded in the platform, where workers can ask questions in plain language and get responses tied to their specific role, skills and goals. The system also recommends learning paths based on an employee’s current position and what skills they may need next.

A built-in search function surfaces direct answers instead of forcing employees to search through long training modules. For example, Workday said a question about handling a customer data request could return a specific policy explanation. That’s more useful than requiring someone to work through an entire compliance course.

For teams building training content, the platform converts existing materials into interactive courses. Companies can upload PDFs and presentations to get started. An AI editor proposes outlines, quiz questions and other interactive elements that human authors can review before publishing.

The system also includes built-in translation tools. Companies can localize the same course into multiple languages instead of building separate versions for each market.

Workday reported that some organizations have cut content creation time by as much as 98% using the platform’s authoring tools. Some projects that once took weeks now take only hours. Customers also reported compliance reporting up to five times faster and learner engagement three times higher compared with legacy systems.

Companies that use Workday’s human capital management platform can now access Workday Learning worldwide. Companies that don’t use Workday HCM or Workday Financial Management can access Sana Learn as a standalone product.
